Honey,
what should I pack?
Packlist
Passport
You should always check your passport first.
How long is your passport still valid? It should be at least 6 months.
If you don’t have a passport yet, you should apply for one as soon as possible. Often it can take several weeks until your passport is ready and you can pick it up.

Credit card and cash
We recommend BOTH! We each have a credit card (in case one doesn’t work or has been stolen) and cash with us. To get a better exchange rate, we usually swap cash for USD at the home airport. As a tourist in the Maldives you give tips and pay in USD.
Travel pharmacy
We always have the same medicines with us and are therefore well prepared for any problems that may arise.
Our compilation serves only as a possible orientation and does not constitute medical advice:

- Painkillers (ibuprofen or paracetamol)
- Sore throat medicine
- Something against sniffles
- Against allergies (antihistamines)
- Diarrhea tablets
- Gastrointestinal medication against nausea, vomiting or similar
- Wound ointment and disinfectant (possibly a disinfectant ointment)
- Mosquito bite ointment
- Mosquito repellent (one with “DEET” works best and is suitable for use in the tropics!)
- Plasters (including waterproof ones) and bandages
- Eye ointment
- Eardrops or ear plugs (if you are sensitive after snorkeling)
- Nasal spray
Drugstore items
We go shopping at a drugstore a few days before. You may know it too, you always spend a lot more money than you actually wanted.
The most important thing: sunscreen!!!
Due to the proximity to the equator, we definitely recommend a high sun protection factor and better you buy one or two more bottles in the drugstore than not having enough with you in the Maldives. Sunscreen on the island is very expensive and can cost 30 USD or even more per bottle.
We calculate about 5.5 oz (for two people) per day. That may sound like a lot at first, but we don’t just apply sunscreen once a day. In addition, we take a sunscreen spray for the hair.

High sun protection factor due to proximity to the equator. Don’t underpack, as sunscreen is very expensive in the Maldives (about $30+ per bottle).
To protect our hair from the sun, we use a sunscreen spray from the drugstore (1-2 bottles for about 2 weeks of vacation).
Toothbrush & toothpaste:
We have an electric toothbrush and buy toothpaste at the drugstore.
If you also have an electric toothbrush, don’t forget to charge it first!
Dental floss and mouthwash:
We take a pack of dental floss and a bottle of mouthwash.

If you don’t want to do without your favorite products, don’t forget your shampoo & shower gel. We use a lot of sensitive products and therefore take our shower articles from home.
You can sometimes read in advance in the hotel description whether you need to take shampoo / shower gel with you. Especially the luxury hotels often provide very well-known brands for their guests free of charge

We always take cleansing milk, cleansing water, face cream, cotton pads, after-sun and make-up remover with us.
For your daily facial cleansing and care you should not forget your personal products at home. After sunbathing, the face should be thoroughly cleaned and cared for. Sunlight, in particular, stresses the skin and dries it out.In the evening, after the shower, you should therefore apply after-sun lotion to your body.

Two nail files (of different grit), nail scissors and nail clippers.
We buy our plasters and bandages at the drugstore: a pack of normal plasters, a pack of waterproof plasters and bandages. Theoretically, you don’t have to take all this with you, because in emergencies you can get plasters and bandages from an island doctor.

- Sabrina takes a dress with her that she can throw over the bikini.
Foreign health insurance
No, we are not insurance agents 😉 , but we have to admit that foreign health insurance makes sense. So that you don’t forget this for the preparations, we have listed it here in the packlist. We have a foreign health insurance including medical evacuation. Even if we don’t need the services, it’s good to know that we’re covered in the event of an emergency.
Vaccinations
For trips to the tropics, you should find out about the necessary vaccinations in advance. We are vaccinated and refresh our vaccinations regularly, following the recommendations of the Federal Foreign Office, the WHO and those of our family doctor.
We recommend that you consult your family doctor. Your doctor can advise you and assess which vaccinations you need or can tolerate.

Entry / visa
On the website of the Federal Foreign Office you will find all important information about the current travel regulations and safety instructions. Here you can not only read which entry requirements apply to your nationality, but you will also find information on the domestic political situation and, for example, tips on correct behavior during the fasting month of Ramadan.
Personally, we think that you should always do some research before you travel and not simply enter the country “blindly”. Take your time. It really doesn’t take long and your vacation will become more carefree.
In any case, an entry declaration must be filled out for entry! In the past, the document was filled out on the plane or at the airport (directly before passport control). You can now only submit the form online: Maldives Immigration (IMUGA)
