A paradise out of 1192 islands.

Maldives

Let’s start with a few facts. The tropical islands of the Maldives are located in the southwest of the southern Indian continent in the Indian Ocean. 1192 islands stretching over 871 kilometers and the southernmost part even over the equator. They are a fascinating paradise of beautiful coral, beautiful white beaches, turquoise lagoons, blue ocean and green palm trees. The Maldives are not only a dream destination for wedding couples, divers and snorkelers, but also for beach lovers, water sports enthusiasts and those looking for peace and quiet.
Male - view from the seaplane
Male is the capital and one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Looks crazy when you look at it from the plane and see so many houses on a small island from above. Due to the lack of living space, the neighboring island Hulhumale was created and thus provides more living space. Right next to it is the island Hulhule, which you know as “Male International Airport”. The airport is a part of the capital Male, even though they are separate islands. Since 2018, the Chinese-Maldivian Friendship Bridge, called Sinamale Bridge, has connected the capital Male with Hulhule and Hulhumale.

The state religion is Islam and the public practice of other religions is forbidden. If you are planning a trip to a local island or to Male, you should dress appropriately. Your knees and shoulders should be covered. You should also avoid transparent clothing and tops with a too wide neckline.
The Maldives mostly has a constantly warm, tropical climate with high humidity and the weather is not determined by the seasons but by the monsoon changes. As a rule, you can expect summer temperatures at night. You simply leave the warm clothes at home. Especially if you want to escape the winter weather, you make the perfect choice with this travel destination.
If you have to go easy on your wallet, then we have found that the weather is also very good in the “low season” and the “high season” can often be twice as expensive in comparison. So we can clearly recommend the “low season”! However, there is never a guarantee of nice weather and everyone has to make their own decision about the travel period.
Since 2009, tourists can not only vacation on a tourist island, but also have a room in a guest house on a local island. A good way to get to know the country and the culture, or if the hotels are too expensive for you, but you still long for a holiday in the Maldives.
Many Maldivians are die-hard volleyball and soccer fans, and a chat about their favorite team or the last important game often lightens up a conversation. Like everywhere else in the world, they keep up with the trends, such as owning the latest mobile phone. Although they all live on islands in the ocean, they are just as interested as we are in international trends and more cosmopolitan than one might think. It’s nice not only to see and enjoy paradise, but also to learn more about the country or the people.
If you ever have enough of “the people”, then simply join the fish in the dreamy underwater world. Dive in and you will find your very own exciting world with a wide variety of sea creatures.

Maybe you’re lucky and a turtle swims past you at the exact moment you have your head under water.
Swim a lap with the turtle.
If you decide to visit the Maldives, then take time for yourself, your thoughts and let your soul dangle. Enjoy the food (especially the fresh fish!), the sand under your feet, the feeling of being in the middle of the ocean, the colors of the Maldives and recharge your batteries.

Good trip!
