An unknown paradise for us
Maldives. 2009 was the first time I heard about this country. You might have heard or seen something about the Maldives in a documentary, but actually you were unfamiliar with it. Michael on the other hand said he really wants to go there, showed me pictures on the internet and where to find it on the world map. Many small islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean. We no longer know when and why he chose the Maldives as a travel destination. He probably stumbled over it on a travel portal while looking for our next holiday.
“Oh, wow!” I was excited. These pictures of palm trees, the beautiful sandy beaches and these colors of the sea. From that point on, it was clear that we had to go there. So we saved our money: no clubbing, no more restaurant visits and no other major expenses. But with the Maldives as our goal, it was no problem for us to do without.
When and which hotel?
In the meantime, we visited a travel agency, received detailed advice and booked our first Maldives trip to a 3 star resort. We had chosen the most expensive travel time over Christmas and New Year’s Eve, as this is part of the low-rain high-season and was recommended to us. Today we know that the low-season can be just as beautiful. In any case, the anticipation was huge!
Many small islands
Our flight to the Maldives was a direct flight from Germany, very long and in economy class. But as soon as you look out of the window just before landing and spot the ocean below you, with the many small islands in the blue-turquoise water… unbelievable! From then on, the stress and the tiring flight are instantly forgotten. Even today we look each other in the eye at this moment and look forward to it every time. We’re finally here!
Love at first sight
At that time we were taken to the island by speedboat and Sabrina found it really exciting. She had never experienced traveling across the ocean in a boat before.
When we arrived and walked down the jetty towards the island, we were blown away by the sight. These colors! Blue. Turquoise. White. Green. The “Maldives love” got us forever. This feeling of being able to forget everything for a while, to be in the here and now and not to think about the many things that you have to do every day.
This holiday destination is perfect, especially for us, who sometimes need a break to be creative again. Relaxation gives us new thoughts and ideas. With fresh energy and a fully charged battery, we return to everyday life.
